2K Recruits Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Shift Follows Mixed Response

The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the departure of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to the game's disappointing unveiling last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president David Ismailer informed staff about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a more defined direction.

The president stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Strategic Hires

The news follows a similar step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

Here is the full content from the president's communication:

Team—

I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and innovative developers we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to persist.”

Through your commitment and versatility, particularly over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a sharper vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve advanced. You accepted the criticism to mind and reimagined the title with a renewed vision - one that’s ready to fulfill its promise to our players.

The belief in this project strengthens every day. To boost the remarkable advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to announce Ben Brinkman as the latest Studio Head of 31st Union. Following some time of talks, he officially joins us on next week.

Ben’s management and experience in the PVP shooter space is vast, having dedicated the past decade and a half developing and managing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving him next week. We are all eager to keep witnessing the development of the game in the time to ahead.

David

Title Details and Concept

Project Ethos was unveiled in last year alongside a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the title as a "no-cost, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the category."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to match your preferred approach," the official summary reads. "Take on the rivals with unique powers, stakes, and challenges that shift every match. Will you leave securely with your valuable rewards? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and pray your team can achieve the highest spot? The decision is yours."

The game has not yet received an official launch window or platforms, but fans can look forward to more updates as production continues.
