A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
Although not quite at the identical stature as pardoning festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the character of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Each year, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
