Battlefield 6's Casual Playlist Sparks Heated Discussions Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a new playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key adjustments:
- Each team has just 8 real players, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
- Actions performed by real players award complete experience points, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of locations are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State.
- Features like Player tags, achievements, and career stat updates are disabled.
In short, the playlist delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative ways to enjoy the title. However, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that not everyone will be happy. In other words, many BF6 fans are mad.
Player Responses: From Fury to Praise
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," while someone else details all the issues they consider to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."
Valid Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, players have valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes due to the large amount of options in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to remove XP farming from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to adjust it?"
Future Prospects: Will Changes Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and acting on player input. Tasks being too difficult got fixed rapidly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
