How these Denver Broncos and the malleable quarterback could halt that Chiefs' rule.

NFL 2025 season: Week six
Real-time updates features text commentary of Sunday's games via various channels, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets in London (from 14:00 BST). Also, radio commentary can be heard on select stations covering another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
We're in the sixth week in the football calendar , following recent discussion regarding the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles as possible championship contenders, they both lost their perfect starts.
Striking in those games was the number of infractions both committed. Philadelphia did so at crucial times so they essentially defeated themselves after leading 17-3 entering the final quarter versus Denver, who play overseas this Sunday.
But it proved good to observe how Denver's QB Bo Nix managed to have the shortfall before direct three scoring drives in three attempts during the final period, securing the game by four points.
Denver boast the top defender in CB their star corner. They are number one in goal-line defense, while the Eagles lead the league in red zone offence, and Denver prevailed in that contest.
They executed effective strategies in terms of disguised blitzes. They did not always rushing extra pass rushers instead they could position two LBs in the interior before drop them out and send a nickel off the edge.
At the start of the season, it was noted during a show that Denver might emerge as this season's dark horses. They ended last season well then excelled of building upon that.
Could Denver be this season's dark horses?
New tight end Evan Engram has stepped up significantly while new RB JK Dobbins is a guy they believe in. He now ranks 5th league-wide for rushing yards (402) and tied-fourth for rushing touchdowns (four).
I love how head coach Sean Payton has "RUSH!" at the top on his call sheet.
This demonstrates how the Broncos are a squad that wants to run first, because you can do a lot off the back of that. It reduces down the pass rush and keeps you in positive down and distances.
This has helped quarterback the young passer, who came into the league as the 12th overall draft pick last year, passing for 29 touchdown passes – second only to a star QB in rookie records (31 in 2020).
Other elite QBs possess powerful arms to throw all over, but they don't move in the same way that Nix has. He has incredible passing ability, which is different, plus he is highly agile.
His strengths are his movement, being able to pass while moving, as well as using varied release points to deliver the pass as he moves out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He is able to throw precision throws over the middle or over the corner.
For a young quarterback, aged 25, he's got a lot of poise under pressure and is not bothered by the blitz. He aims to avoid a sack whenever possible and is able pass in tight spots. He has a high football IQ and is quick to decide.
When you constantly run the ball it consumes time and forces the opponent to stay on the field for longer, and when you've got an athletic quarterback the defense has to cover the field vertically and horizontally. It can be exhausting.
The quarterback has pushed back at Payton on the sideline sometimes and I think the coach appreciates that attitude, seeing him as such a competitor. I think it's fun for the coach to have a rookie QB that is similar to moldable clay. The coach can truly build something up the way he wants to shape him. I think it's a unique opportunity for him.
Payton has won a Super Bowl and has surpassed Bill Parcells for career NFL wins (173, tying for 14th). He's seen everything. I think the achievements Denver are having on offence is largely due to his guidance, his schemes, his game sense – and the combination with the QB helps shape him into who he is.
There's no better a more qualified person in your ear, to help you during difficult moments and boost confidence.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in the QB's grit and calm. But are they strong enough to go against a top squad at its best? Since that wasn't a Super Bowl performance from Philadelphia last Sunday.
Currently, I don't think Denver are incredible. They're working above average, which is a solid position to hold the AFC West. All they need is to continue this trajectory.
They excel at leaning into their forte, that is running the ball, and this is precisely what they must do against the New York Jets in London. It's going to be a Dobbins-focused game, essentially.
New York have surrendered 140 rushing yards each contest (among the worst), five ground scores this season (10th worst), and they are the sole squad yet to win a game.
Since the NFL began tracking turnovers decades ago, this team are also the first team to go without a single takeaway in five outings, this is kind of shocking considering that the head coach was previously a defensive coach with another team.
The Chiefs' QB stated Kansas City are off to a poor start following Monday's defeat to Jacksonville.
After the upcoming matchup, the Broncos face a manageable slate up to their break (in week twelve) - the Giants, Dallas Cowboys, the Texans plus the Raiders before the Chiefs.
Looking at the AFC West, the Chiefs are 2-3 and the Broncos are tied with the Chargers on 3-2 meaning they could challenge at leading the West.
This hinges upon what version of the Chiefs they meet since Denver {beat|def
