Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and believes the athlete will be OK after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn shared that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn commented. “His wife and his kid, they are doing well and he will come through this without issue.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the medical facility, where his condition is described as critical but stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” the coach said. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. And again, that puts my mind at ease, given his positive frame of mind and he’s talking that way.”

Authorities issued surveillance images earlier this week of a suspect in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and officials stated it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries were reported.

The incident occurred in the early morning on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, in his late twenties, was taken to a medical center after sustaining an abdominal gunshot wound, police said. The perpetrator got away.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been in his thoughts “constantly” since the news broke. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn noted. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and my priority is his well-being. That was my main concern.
“A certain process is underway, I’ll keep private, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive in the present campaign, after joining the team, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder injury that needed an operation.

He signed with New York as a new signing in March and was expected to be an important component of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during preseason drills on 2 August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has stayed involved with the squad throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He remains involved with our activities,” Glenn commented. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. His commitment is total. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, a Texas native, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after being a seventh-round pick by the Vikings out of UT in 2019. He joined Arizona in last year and later was with the Texans after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
