Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Season on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the network.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star added, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating for some time, but confirmation only came this week.
New Challenges for AC-12
The seventh season will open with AC-12 having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue working to combat misconduct within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a sexual predator.
However, his case might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still operating in the background, the teaser suggested.
In a statement, the creator said: "All cast and crew feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had countless fans watch the developments of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be coming back for a new season."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm so excited the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the unit days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the central trio will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the announcement and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
The drama launched in 2012 and evolved into one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
Broadcasters haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of season six brought the extended plot about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for further series.
However, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
