The ex-lawyer for the former president has left her position as New Jersey's top federal prosecutor. This decision was prompted by a judicial decision that questioned her legal standing to hold the office.

Acceptance of Resignation

US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, confirmed her stepping down on Monday. Bondi stated that the court's "flawed" ruling made it unworkable for Habba to perform her duties.

"Do not interpret adherence to the ruling as defeat," she declared. "This battle will now extend throughout America."

Court Ruling

Habba's exit was triggered by a federal appellate panel determined that she had been serving in violation of the law as the federal prosecutor. This decision is expected to impact numerous prosecutions in New Jersey.

The judicial panel said that a acting appointment that bypassed confirmation by the US Senate breached the statute on vacant positions.

Bondi said that the former prosecutor will continue working within the DOJ as a top consultant. They intend to challenge the decision of the ruling, with hopes of a reversal.

In a statement, she wrote that judges "should not be able to override the executive's selection of attorneys entrusted with performing the executive branch's core responsibility of enforcing the law."

She commended Habba's record and noted that while she was in charge, the state capital of Newark saw a 20% reduction in crime. It was also reported that the Camden recorded its first summer in 50 years with no murders.

Legal Career

Habba, was initially recruited to Trump's personal legal team in 2021. She later acted for her client in his New York criminal case in New York last year, when he was conviction on 34 counts of document fraud.
