Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Secure Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different times.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net early on.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times late to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial leveler in the dying moments to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this competition for the 12th time in the last thirteen years.
