Slot Asserts He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league champions on a tough evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my role. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“We communicate frequently. They are helpful to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “During our regular discussions I feel the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I'm a supporter, and I've watched Liverpool since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Reds side going through a phase like this with results so bad.”
He concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team back to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
