The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is what Woody is back with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
