The network's Leading New Show of 2025 Earns a Significant Extension for Two More Seasons.

In October of last year, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer tone. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a contemplative talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their strong bond for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.

"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Executive Acclaim

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and uniquely eerie." He specifically highlighted the fans who discovered the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this charming family go about their daily lives.

In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to help comedy break out of its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.

“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” explained Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

Future Seasons

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to catalyze that change he described. If nothing else, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.

The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. All episodes is available for streaming on HBO Max.
