‘We Will Miss Him Terribly’: Meg Ryan Shares Emotional Homage to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has posted a tribute to the late filmmaker Rob Reiner, who directed her in the hit romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally.

A Heartbreaking Event

Reiner was discovered deceased alongside his spouse, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles this past weekend.

“Oh how we will miss this man…” Ryan shared on Instagram, next to an image of them together. “We thank you, Rob and Michele, for your belief in true love, fairy tales, and laughter. We appreciate your faith in human goodness and your deep patriotism.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“It is my belief that from this horror, positive change and understanding can emerge,” Ryan continued. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy issued words today. “No words can convey the constant, profound sorrow we feel,” they said. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. Beyond being our mom and dad, they were our dearest friends.”

Hollywood Tributes Pour In

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner via comments shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“His comedic touch was beyond compare, his love of getting the music of the dialogue just right, and his sharpening of the edge of a drama was simply elegant,” the tribute noted. “For the actors, he loved them. For the writers he made them better. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Everyone felt like part of a crew. His direction was a gift, but his legacy is broader.”

A Storied Career

When Harry Met Sally was a critical and commercial success in 1989, earning over $93 million globally and securing Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner met Michele Singer Reiner during the production of When Harry Met Sally. The pair were introduced by Barry Sonnenfeld, a friend and director.

Reiner’s extensive filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were husband and wife for over three decades.
